Title : Child-safe Organisations Regional Workshop

Location : Kathmandu, Nepal

ECPAT International organised a regional capacity-building workshop on child-safe organisations for 25 participants from 12 organisations in five South Asian countries. The workshop: increased awareness and knowledge of child abuse/child protection issues; built the capacity of local organisations to identify, assess and manage child protection risks within their organisations; and developed strategies and processes for the implementation of child protection policies and procedures to ensure best practice in child protection. Participants also developed plans for follow-up training and the development of child protection policies within their own organisations.

Title : 2nd Arab ISPCAN Conference

Location : Sana’a, Yemen

ECPAT International, together with ECPAT groups and partners from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, participated in the 2nd Arab ISPCAN conference in Yemen. The focus of the conference was violence against children as well as sexual violence and exploitation, a subject which is particularly sensitive for many of the MENA countries.

ECPAT International gave a presentation on protecting children from sexual violence and exploitation at the Arab ISPCAN meeting in Yemen. Furthermore, the Conference provided an opportunity to strengthen links in the region.

Title : Care and Protection Mapping Exercise

Location : Thailand

ECPAT International and the ECPAT Foundation arranged consultations between organisations working on children’s issues in Chiang Rai and Prayao as part of a mapping exercise. The consultations identified the types of CSEC in each district of both provinces, and the types of services and social welfare systems available in response to their needs, in order to improve services or collaboration.

Title : Training on combating the sexual exploitation of children

Location : Cambodia and Thailand

ECPAT International presented a session on the challenges of multi-agency and multi-country child protection at a training course on combating the sexual exploitation of children, organised by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s Embassies in Phnom Penh and Bangkok, Microsoft and the UK’s Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP), in association with members of the Virtual Global Task Force. Participants included representatives from NGOs, law enforcement and the judicial system from nine countries in South and Southeast Asia.
